The Vision: A Relaxed and Artsy Vibe
From the start of the planning process, since I had full control of this shoot, I envisioned a laid-back session where Justyn and John could feel comfortable being themselves. I wanted to create an environment where they could move freely, interact naturally, and simply enjoy the moment. The goal was to achieve an effortless, artsy look that still had depth and meaning that came from their personalities—something that would be timeless, yet modern.
Styling Their Wardrobe
As part of the planning process, I worked closely with Justyn and John to select a wardrobe that would complement the shoot’s artistic vibe. We went for a mix of casual and stylish outfits, keeping things simple but polished. Soft, neutral tones were chosen to ensure that the clothing didn’t steal the show, and also so the images age well. A well-styled outfit can make a huge difference, and I always recommend selecting pieces that not only look good but make the couple feel comfortable. Layers and accessories can be your best friend for photos! I am all for including your cute handbag and coats in your wardrobe to bring more authenticity and elements. The outfit details from this shoot will be linked at the very bottom of this blog!
Location and Theme: A Perfect Backdrop
Choosing the perfect location is crucial for creating the right mood for any engagement shoot. For Justyn and John, I decided on the Dallas Museum of Arts since it offered a balance of natural beauty and urban charm—something that provided both variety and an artistic edge. The setting was intimate and open, allowing us to capture wide shots, close-ups, and candid moments. We were able to shoot outside of the museum as well for the coffee date moment since the DMA has a café attached. One of my favorite concepts for engagement sessions are date ideas! Whatever sounds like a fun date night to you, let’s just do that while I take candids!
Candid Posing: Capturing True Connection
One of the things I’m most passionate about as a photographer is showcasing natural, candid moments between couples. For Justyn and John, I wanted to capture their connection in an authentic way. Instead of rigid, traditional posing, I encouraged them to interact with each other. For example a few things I prompted them to do was: Have a staring contest and try not to laugh (this always results in laughter,) hold hands and walk around, hug and spin around, go to fix a piece of his/her hair, etc. The list is endless! This approach allowed me to photograph genuine, intimate moments between them—whether it was a laugh, a glance, or a soft touch. These are the kinds of photos that truly tell a couple’s story and show their real chemistry.
As we wrapped up the shoot, I knew we had captured some special moments. The relaxed atmosphere, the unique styling, and the candid moments all came together to create a set of images that were as beautiful as they were meaningful.
Why Choose a Candid Focused Photographer?
My goal is to create photos that feel as natural and authentic as the couple themselves. If you’re looking for a relaxed, artsy engagement session that focuses on real moments and connection, I’d love to help bring your vision to life. Whether you’re in Dallas or surrounding areas, let’s create something unique to tell your love story!
